1953 CHEVROLET BELAIR SPORT COUPE:
After introducing its all-new postwar car in 1949, Chevrolet became the first automaker since the war to produce over a million cars. Chevrolet added a new Bel Air hardtop coupe and the first automatic transmission in the low-price market in 1950. The next styling change came in 1953. Chevrolet enlarged its bodies and used a one-piece curved windshield. Too, this was the first year of the Corvette. Besides the Corvette, the most exciting Chevrolet news these years was the replacement of the old overhead valve six engine with a modern V-8 in 1955. The '55 also received a beautiful new body design and a new chassis, and production that year reached an all-time high for Chevrolet. A 1956 Bel Air was the 35th millionth car built by Chevrolet, and that says a lot.
